Gmail Contact Manager changed, added ability to connect to other IM networks?

I went to see if I had Ustauk's email address (I don't).  In doing so I noticed that the Contact Manager for Gmail changed since the last time I looked at it a week or two ago.  Specifically, I noticed an interesting new field (see attached image).  This led me to do some investigation, which turned up this article about it: http://mashable.com/2007/10/31/gmail-jabber-im/
