The saga continues, Toshiba is slashing prices on their HD-DVD players:

Clearing stock for product that is increasingly worth less. I don't care how cheap the player is if I can't get the movies I want on its formate.

HD-DVD is certainly looking to be the loser, with major publishers producing Blu-Ray-only content it seems Sony may be victorious in the end.

But a month ago the playing field was much more even and who's to say where things will go...

It's all very tiresome and in the end no matter which format "wins" it will require a lot of hardware upgrading to make it worthwhile (receiver, cable box, DVD player and finally TV).
