Prince George to send warm water into river to ease ice jam

Okay, so I picked up on this about three weeks ago because an old friend used to live in Prince George; apparently the river running through PG has a giant ice-jam that is causing flooding in the middle of winter (yet another good reason not to build your house in a floodplain).  Their solution?  Pipe warm water from a plant over to the river to melt the ice...  Well, at least they're not trying to blow it up with dynamite!  I do wonder, though, if adding more water to an already-flooding river will alleviate flooding...  Especially since the river water is apparently already +10 degrees, warm enough to melt ice.

Lazybones

If they use the warmer water to melt even a small path through the jam, erosion from the moving water should be able to break up the rest.
