I know as well as the next guy that it's really easy to spread FUD on the Internet.  So when I stumbled across this open letter about Sarah Palin, I questioned whether it was true or not:

http://www.thepresidentialcandidates.us/about-sarah-palin-a-letter-from-anne-kilkenny/741/

Snopes investigated, too, and found that the letter is real: http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/sarahpalin.asp

Basically, this letter points out that Sarah Palin is a savvy backstabber who likes to play the system and says whatever she needs to get what she wants.  What struck me the most, though, is the part where it explains that her only government experience was a few years as a mayor of a town of 5,000 (with a hired administrator to help!) and a few years as a governor of a state of 670,000 (less than many urban areas).

No mention of her support for the Alaskan Independence Party, the US's Bloc Quebecois, though.  But it's funny to see her standing at a pulpit with the banner "Country First" on it, and then have that shown next to a picture of her standing at a pulpit with the banner "Alaska Always".  'twould seem those two ideals are at odds.

Anyway, give the letter a read, tell me if it doesn't make her sound like every other politician.

I hate to make off-the-cuff remarks, let alone comment on the politics of a country I don't live in no less. But!

If anything is going to cause McCain to lose, it's going to be Palin. She is scarily underhanded and there's some serious dissonance in her platform. The whole no sexual education thing while her own daughter is teen pregnant thing is particularly baffling. She is a scary lady and the thought of her as president if McCain snuffs it while in office is even scarier. Even devoted Republicans must be having difficulty supporting the candidates with her waiting in McCain's shadow for an opportunity.

On a lighter note, she's a great subject for image macros!

Lazybones

McCain is already 7 times more likely to die while in office than Obama based on age, on top of that he has some other health conditions.

A while back I heard a radio-show interview with someone who had analyzed popular music for the last forty years or so, and how it changed with various governments.  What this person had noticed was that popular music gets fluffier during Democratic reigns, and angstier during Republican reigns.

So with the Democrats already the dominant power in the House since 2006 and now poised to have one of their own elected as President, we should see a resurgence in a year or two of fluffier pop music.

As many republicons themselves have pointed out, in choosing Sarah Palin, John McSame is essentially saying... (quiet now, so you can hear him ;) )

"My friends, ignore the fact that I made an obvious error in judgement when choosing Palin as my veep, and don't let it impact your opinion of my judgement in other decisions I will have to make as Leader Of The Free World. At least you can expect my administration to be vastly different than George 'Voted 90% of the time with him!' Bush, since you, my friends, the American people, will at least not have to fear her being like Dick 'Puppetmaster' Cheney."

;)
