So, been playing Elemental from Stardock for a few days, thoughts so far:

Plus

HUGELY addictive. At it's heart it's a great spiritual successor to Master of Magic. Think Civilization mixed with Heroes of Might and Magic. One of those games where the hours fly by and you still want one more turn.

Minus

Released WAYYYY too early. Huge memory leaks, various crashes. Some game play issues that need a lot of polishing.

Overall I'd give it a 7.0, but if aggressively patched (which they have 4 times already) really has the potential for 10/10.

Just some quick info for you guys. If you want me to expand or explain let me know.

Man, that brings back some memories.

Too bad about all the bugs though, that really kills a game if it can't rum smoothly...

Yeah, it sucks when your rum is all thick and bumpy.

That is new special "N", is double-"N"...

Usually I don't have problems getting games to rum, the mornings after though...

Glad I don't do that anymore!

Was going to write up some more info on the game, but after reading a post on the official forum of the lead designer I'm going to hold off for a bit. Apparently they are working one a HUGE patch to bring the game up to version 1.1. This patch is to make quite a few changes to the game based on player feedback (from beta testing I presume). So, I'll let you know how the game feels after said patch when it arrives (They hoped for the next week or so.)

P.S. Did some driver updates (tisk tisk, I had fell behind) and it did seem to help a little bit. Not to make the game a reasonable release stability wise, but helped none the less. So, if you are thinking about buying the game, may want to keep that in mind.

Just a quick update:

1.07 patch just came out, and the game is much more (?) stable now.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes in this game. I play the damn game near every day and still learning things about it. But, I have to point out, some of that is due to very poor documentation.

They have promised to support this game with free updates for 12- 18 months, so still hope that many issues will be polished, and the diamond will shine on this game.

Again, I'll try and give a more in depth review after 1.1. For now you can see 2 very opposing opinions here:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/elementalwarofmagic/review.html

Gamespot was not kind to the game. In some ways they deserved it for releasing too early, but they did tend to overlook the depth of the game underneath. {4/10}

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Games/Reviews/elemental_war_of_magic/

Then Neoseeker does the exact opposite. {9/10}

So, I think the game falls under the "you either love it, or hate it" category at this point.
