Weird Parking Lot Closure

When I parked in my usual parking lot just east of the Greyhound station downtown today, the machine told me the parking pass was only good until 4pm.  I wondered all day why the lot would be closed at 4pm, seemed kinda silly.

When I left the parking lot about 3:45pm there was a sign that said ?Volunteers Parking?.  Then I saw some cosplayers walking along 104th Ave, right by Grant MacEwan.  That reminded me that Animethon is on this weekend at Grant Mac.  So that?s why the parking lot was closed early to the general public ? it?d been rented for volunteer parking for Animethon 19.

So Fragapalooza, Animethon, and Folk Music Festival are all going on this weekend.

Oddly enough it would have been 20 years since I went to my first Animethon

...and frankly that BLOWS MY MIND

Anime has been mainstream for about 20 years.
