Thrown javelin kills a judge who is supposed to determine exactly how far it was thrown: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/27/javelin-kills-official-dieter-strack-youth-meet-police_n_1832656.html?utm_hp_ref=sports

He was hit in the throat by the javelin, and died the next day.

Okay, standing in the area that a very sharp spear is supposed to land is a Bad Idea.  I don't know why the athletics world continues to use human judges for this.  Seriously, it's like having a guy stand next to the target at a gun range to tell you how close you got to the bullseye - if your aim's a little off, it's gonna hit the guy standing next to the target!

Well, not quite stupid but raises doubt, with deadly force, of the judges credentials.

Still, on the list of ways to go that really, really sucks.
