As a response to one detail released re. the recent CT shooting, Slate has a touching, and articulate, handling of the subject by a parent whose child has been diagnosed. Might be helpful if more people hear stuff like this. Also very impressive is the responses in the comments -- voices are raised in support of mis-understood conditions, sometimes it just takes someone willing to be "First!*"

*ironically, a lot of those people might themselves have some degree of Asbergers.

Asperger's is under consideration to be dropped from the psychiatric diagnostic manual, and all symptoms would be moved to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/move-to-drop-asperger-s-from-revised-diagnosis-manual-gets-approval-1.1062489

Separately, don't start guessing at the Connecticut shooter's motives just yet.  The police have not released any information about the shooter's background or mental state, and anything you've heard so far is unofficial and / or rumours.  It'll be a while before the police release all the information they have, although they've said that they plan to release once they have a complete picture - they don't want to put out partial info and fuel more rumours.

Mr. Analog

Apparently he had no "internet footprint" and destroyed his computer after shooting his mother.

As it stands I'm not so much concerned by the why this crazy asshole did what he did but more concerned with the survivors and what's left over for them after all this.

One of our co-workers lost his child in the shooting, it's a very dark time for a lot of parents.

why stop now? #blamethemedia

Mr. A, sorry to hear about that -- normally you expect "other side of the world" events to not "hit home", but this certainly is a reminder that random acts of stupidity can happen literally anywhere (Newtown CT, with a population of 27000, apparently had zero homicides the previous year.) You're right about survivors and dealing with grief = hella more important than speculations and politics.
