Mostly vaporware / proof of concept right now, but they seem to be really on the ball with the ideas..... won't go anywhere without the hardware and apps however.

Android has such a lead in this arena already and both Microsoft and Ubuntu want to join in the fray. Like you say the apps will make or break these platforms.

The really exciting stuff -- i.e. the actual UI for the phone OS -- begins around 6 minutes in. Gotta admit, some really creative ideas there. And none of them require a complete re-thinking *cough*Win8*cough* of how you do stuff.

Yeah, Metro to Windows is Unity to Ubuntu, both heavily criticised.

There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Unfortunately Metro makes Unity look more intuitive.

At least unity has mouse support and doesn't make you jump between "native touch mode" and "desktop mode)

True, I'm just saying there was a lot of angry fist shaking when Unity appeared.

Really any more than the Gnome / KDE / what ever desktop zellots? Linux users seriously hate change more than most from my observations.
