...and is "back" for a 10-episode season, PLUS the movie details finalized.

All the fan support and anticipation and excitement; FOX cancelling the series too soon = they made a huge mistake.

I could never watch an entire episode of this show, it just seemed so... whiny!

Given that I actually find Family Guy and Futurama funny, I would thus not put together a sentence comparing all three of them.

It was character-driven SUBTLE dark comedy ... with amazingly intelligent-yet-lowbrow dialog writing that rewarded multiple viewing. Worth watching just for the David Cross character -- every time he spoke he dug his hole deeper.

But still an acquired taste -- sorta like Curb Your Enthusiasm, you either love it or hate it. Cuz it's not your "typical" laugh-track sitcom.

Funny, I like Futurama and Arrested Development but generally don't like Family Guy.

I find FG is tolerable/digestible in very small, infrequent "bites". Futurama can be enjoyed in a dozen-in-a-row (like that night at Mr. Analog's when we filled our brain with laughs zomgwhatwereweallthinking) and AD is somewhere in between -- if you're not in a mood to really Pay Attention then after 2 or 3 episodes your brain starts blurring things together, especially since it's so Story-Arc driven.

only 12 days away from premiering on Netflix, and apparently all 15 episodes will be released at one time (they're all pretty much "stand-alone" eps, partly due to the availability of the various cast members during production, and partly cuz... well, this is AD, "DIFFERENT" is its signature, so why start following normal sitcom conventions NOW?)

The best way to watch the new season is "in any order." "They're all kind of standalone and, depending on the order you watch them in, kind of give you a different perspective. It's pretty cool."

It was very difficult logistically with a cast full of movie stars. They all had full-time jobs when we were making this season ? Tony Hale of Veep, Jason Bateman was directing a film, Michael Cera was starring in a movie in Chile, Portia de Rossi was on an NBC pilot, Will Arnett was on weekly show Up All Night. We were constantly bringing everyone in and out. Now every episode is crafted around an individual character. Mitch Horowitz has made it so ridiculously fun and complicated ? every episode intertwines with all the other ones. So a complete throwaway line is the punch line to something three episodes ago. So it was completely crafted for the Netflix viewers who could watch a bunch in a row.

Also, just released today -- well-known Blowhard and Analrapist Tobias Funke's audition reel can be found @ http://www.insertmeanywhere.biz

^ plenty of spoilers therein -- and since I haven't yet watched the new eps (currently re-watching season 2 and 3) I'll say nothing else, and just leave this thread as-is now, to return in a few weeks...

Mr. Analog

I often wonder if when something like this peaks and/or jumps the shark if it wasn't me that just got bored with it or the quality itself died off.

Some things get better with longer runs, others not so much tho

The original 3 season run -- VERY re-watchable.

From what little I've allowed my ears/eyes to hear/see about S4 -- not so much.

Lightning in a bottle, and all that, I guess. But I'm still gonna watch the new eps eventually, if only to see Buster truly emancipate himself from Mommy Dearest (so he can finally enjoy juice as often as he wishes!)
