How is there not a thread about Jurassic World?

(Not O/T -- after all the lead hero character is played by the same guy, totes related ;) )

PS: yup, there's a LEGO VIDEO GAME coming out for it -- complete with a ton of the original voices! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7ccPbcSZ04

Also announced (hilariously!) is "LEGO: Dimensions"

... aka "parents, prepare to be broke!" (so glad my youngest is a teenager ;) )

Why The Lego Movie was both disturbing and brilliant. From the POV of an alien.

I love me some Wisecrack.

So... still no separate Jurassic World thread, w/e, fine...

Chris Pratt takes the over-reactacular PC-addicted media circus clowns to task:

And also on the subject of PC BS, Jerry Seinfeld is sick of how comedians (and even funny non-comedians, like Mr. Pratt) are expected to be all politically "correct" in this age of instant-access-to-cherry-picked-soundbites etc... I mean, yeesh! (Also, @%&# you, Outrage Porn addicts!)

I'm still trying to figure out why you didn't just start one to begin with, the only connection to Lego was a tie in game (?)

Jurassic World, highly profitable, not something I'm interested in personally. I saw the original Jurassic Park, read the book, played some of the games and then didn't much feel like exploring the sequels

Yeah so it had a take of like 500 million its opening weekend -- I guess only NOW it's earned its own thread ;)

I also am not super excited about seeing it with all the other early adopters. I'm more of a wait-and-see guy when it comes to invested almost 20 bucks to see something on the big screen.

Seems like it's all about finding a good balance between death-tension and character development (can't make it obvious a person is doomed because you give them very little on-screen action and/or lines, etc.)

Now THAT was a nice surprise. Saw it and the first half hour it felt like a modern-produced remake of the whole VIBE of the low-budget films of the 80s... and no shock, it was the same director. It was VERY weird, very "80s" in a good way, but the dialog was ... well, it was tough to follow to say the least. Very "aussie" ;).

The last 75% of the movie kinda became a bit more typical big budget action (but some VERY creative explosion-choreography as well as some outlandish characters that made the rich class in The Hunger Games seem like Mr. Rogers) ... but at the end I was smiling wide. Overall I felt like it was nice to be part of something that took the risk to NOT be predictable formula (which I hope J'World also manages to be, but I am skeptical of course, lowest common denominator is gonna be necessary to get such a wide audience that its budget is gonna need ;) )

I also have not seen Ultron yet -- let me know what day works for you next week and we will go!

Thorin

I rewatched the original Jurassic Park recently and I was amazed at how well the dinosaur special effects hold up.

Although rebuilding a dinosaur theme park yet another time after so many previously-failed attempts, well...  People are dumb for money?
Prayin' for a 20!

gcc thorin.c -pedantic -o Thorin
compile successful

Apparently.

Interestingly enough the paleo-scientist who was the consultant for the films also plans on bringing actual dinosaurs to life

Speaking of... here's a video showing virtually every hat-tip in JW to the original JP film ** -- with both scenes side-by-side in split-screen:

via http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a676551/finally-all-the-jurassic-park-references-in-jurassic-world-in-one-easy-video.html

YEESH, this has a LOT of moments, a total 3.5 minutes long... but around the 1.5 minute mark I realized for the last 30 seconds at least I was pretty much staring non-stop at just the bottom half! Really mind-blowing how much better JP was vs JW (even completely overlooking how many scenes/shots were pretty much a direct copy of similar from the original film -- what happened to original thought in summer blockbusters? #lol ) it somehow had more heart, more tension, more laughs; as an immersive film experience it was more... real!

** Okay in truth the bottom frame is scenes from potentially ANY of three films in the original JP trilogy, but MOST of the scenes referenced in JW are from the first film -- The least "artificial" of the franchise imo.
