I'm not sure if it was done on purpose but the direct contrast of both The Simpsons and Family Guy showed how un-likeable most of the characters are.

There has been a considerable amount of fan focus on the scene between Meg and Lisa highlighting how they are regarded by their fathers. The quip at the end of the scene was meant to be funny but it struck a chord with people with dysfunctional relationships with their father figures. The end result of most peoples' analysis was: Homer is a bad parent, but at least he tries. Peter is just a bad parent.

The way meg is treated has made me not really enjoy watching Family Guy that much. It turned into a running gag... "Just how badly can we treat meg".
<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!

The futurama cross over sounds oddly well thought out.
