Having layers that add depth only works if you expose them in a way that connects with the audience, there were way too many distractions in the Matrix sequels to allow much subtlety through.

It's been a long time since I've seen the sequels, so maybe if I re-watch them something will click.

This video is DEFINITELY worth the 15 minutes running time. Not just baseless speculations, there is a LOT of actions and dialogue/monologue that seems to point to someone else... someone... more emotional, more ... human.
