I've heard stories about congestion in LA but seeing it like this really drives it home (pun intended :D )

They just need to build more roundabouts.

Only partly joking...

You can go overboard with roundabouts, just look at The Magic Roundabout in Swindon, UK. Or the stupid t-intersection one they built in St Albert just past the courthouse.
Prayin' for a 20!

Magic Roundabout!!! O_O

Seriously though, I zoomed into the 2 cities I linked above, and found myself nodding my head a lot -- the majority of every possible "low-medium traffic" standard 2-vertical 2-horizontal 4-way intersection seems to be a single-lane roundabout and it definitely makes sense, no weird inconsistent 3 or 5 or 6 exits and no need for 2+ lanes to add to the confusion of a roundabout that is there to begin with for some people.

Especially jealous because the last 2 or 3 years I've been all over every old and new part of this ever-growing town and even just for starters there are just so many overly-protective slow-flow intersections where it takes 2+ minutes to make a left turn even if no other cars are around you and that would not be the case if roundabouts (at least no cameras everywhere :P ) :sigh:

I saw someone work with a magic roundabout in Cities Skylines. It helped.

My guess is that it keeps the traffic from bunching up in one specific spot in the intersection and flowing. So even if it looks complicated, its an over-all win.
