My guess is that it will live on on P2P networks for a long time until a some sort of copy protection that works against it is found.

 Geez louise!

Do they (i.e. MPAA, et al) think this will stop people from ripping and compressing DVD video?

DVDShrink has a decryptor built into it.

Speaking of DVDs, I know some of youz guyz have complained about this, might be insightful or humourous for you to read about the Dreaded DVD Double-Dip Ploy

But DVDShrink development stoped a long time ago, no new versions are made.

DVD Decryptor as been updated every time a new copy protection was released since DVDShrink stopped getting updates.

It appears that by defeating Sony's latest protection DVD Decryptor turned some heads.

I suspect something will come in and replace it, but there could be a time in the near future where you can simply backup your DVD's anymore.

Was testing out my new systems video editing, the clip was taken from a simpsons episode.

i havent had an issue with DVD Shrink in all the stuff I rip.  However, i do own about 350 dvds (previously viewed from Rogers with employee discount = $5 DVDs), and not a single burned movie.  I just rip episode collections.

RatDVD(http://www.ratdvd.dk) seems promissing, it uses its own codecs for compression and such, so its really rather unique.

Also, DVD Decrypter should be available here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_D...er/1011845169/1 for a long long time, as they have a apps as far back as 1999 on that website. (its where i  download almost everything)
