Quoten an effort to prove that adult Web sites remain readily accessible by minors, the Justice Department has subpoenaed search records from Google, as well as MSN, Yahoo!, and America Online. The other companies all complied.

Err, the US Department of Justice has subpoenaed search records?  And private companies readily provided it?  What?



So far, Google has been fighting it tooth and nail because they believe (rightly so) that if users find out the government can get information about them from Google, the users will stop using Google.  Article here.
