These guys are just constantly impressing me over the last 3 years I've been with them.  Today I find a cheaper solution for my home ISP requirements.

Shaw has an even lower plan than SOHO, which is basically SOHO limited to 1 Static IP and only 2 dynamics, and no domain hosting... well you also loose 20GB/month in your bandwidth allocation.

It is the Entrepreneur Package: http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/BusinessInternet/EntrepreneurPackage.htm

vs

The SOHO I used to have up to 5 mins ago: http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/BusinessInternet/SOHOPackage.htm

Because RW and my other websites are hosted from free DNS hosts, and because I host them on my own webservers, didn't need all that extra stuff with SOHO.  Will be interesting to see if basic cable is still working in my basement (meh if not, I still have Bell which I primarily watch).

So basically I just saved myself almost $30 with some of the options I had with SOHO.

Sweet!

Wait, where's the static IP there?

No static IP and no basic cable..... costs more if you factor in the basic cable cost for those of us not on SAT.

Sorry for SOHO no static either.  Read the last line on both webpages.

When I asked the guy on the phone, he said that Ent was limited to 1 Static and that SOHO is limited to 2 Statics.

Found this on this page: http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/BusinessInternet/AdditionalOptions.htm

Where does it say you have Cable on the SOHO?  I can't find it either.  I think it comes with all business connections to tell you the truth.  Even if not, I don't use mine in the basement.

Wait found the it.  In the table, those sneaky bastages, right at the top of the SOHO page.  We'll see if they remember to disconnect my Basic Cable :P.

At any rate it is a little cheaper than SOHO if you don't need cable.. If you need cable. SOHO tends to get you basic for a little less than getting it other wise.

I have to work out what I want again.. I have noticed that there is almost no price difference between Digital and Full cable if you own the Digital box.

Agreed its not a huge savings, as $15 off the retail listing isn't much... well maybe it is when you look at it yearly, as that is $180 off your internet bill.  For our hosting here it worked out to $28.50 cheaper as I had options with SOHO that we no longer needed (from a grandfathered version of the package), so a bit better for me.

But yeah if you don't get cable with the Ent, and you still want basic cable, then SOHO might still be the better choice.

Did they charge you the $100 setup fee? And does the Ent package actually allow you to host stuff? With my current E-I options, the only noticible difference is the extra 10GB/mo bandwidth. The extra 5 or so bucks a month would be worth the peace of mind of not having to worry about going against the TOS for hosting stuff.
<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!

I called Shaw and they confirmed to me that the Ent package does not include cable TV and that if i need cable TV they recommended the SOHO package (i called not as a user but as a unknowing customer).  Sucks, im rather tired of my $80.50 shaw cable bill

No setup fee.  Yes Ent allows you to host your own websites.  That's the point of the package, for those who can do it themselves and don't need shaw to host for them.
