I found this article rather good..

The last item on page 1 is misleading - comparing the price of the PS2 as offered on eBay then to the retail price of the PS3 as sold in stores is an apples-to-oranges comparison.  They should've compared the $600 then (about $200 more than retail) to the $1,500 now (about $900 more than retail).

There's also a backlash by consumers who don't want to buy anything Sony anymore just because of how Sony has mistreated its consumers, either directly or indirectly.

I recall lists like this being made for the Xbox360 when it came out how it would fail as its like a dreamcast coming out early, not adopting new tech, blah blah blah, it would currently appear to not be the case.

I will bet heavily that the PS3 will succeed in a big way.   However I believe that its success is directly linked to the success of the Blu-Ray technology.
