Assuming you sleep 8 hours a night, how about gaining 3-6 hours a day?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep

Tom

The other forum I hang out at has totally debunked that Polyphasic sleeping thing. All it does is keep you so tired that you get into REM sleep as soon as you lay down, instead of after 1-2 hours. You get a little rest, but you'll probably go insane.

I find naps during lunchtime are very refreshing, *if* I don't exceed 20-30 minutes... Around the 40-45 minute mark I get into deeper sleep and then I am groggy for like 4 hours afterwards (so I only do that if I have an afternoon meeting ;D )

But it's amazing how many 5- or 10-minute time wasters I found myself nodding to while reading that list (of, as I said, things We Know But Often Forget).

Like repeatedly checking this forum, for example. Perhaps once at lunch and once at 5pm needs to be my routine... I don't get paid to surf :P

Isn't that the point though?  Instead of a typical 8 hour sleep cycle that provides you with 2 hours of REM, you spread that around and enter deep sleep instantly.  A fantastic blog http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/10/polyphasic-sleep/ has day by day accounts of how it went.  I have thought about trying this but my Heroscape outings, disc golf tourney's, paintball days I just couldn't stick to the schedule.

Instead I have tried the "when your tired go to bed when you are rested wake up", I have had a couple 5 hour nights, a couple 9 hours, I seem to land in the 6-7 area.  My time lines are all messed up though as I sometimes go to bed at 4am and wake at 11, but others I'm in bed by 10pm and up by 4am

If I have a couple glass of beer at noon i'm done fore the day :)  I enjoy those Friday lunches at upside, its a built in excuse to be less then efficient in the afternoon.

IIRC, most "normal" people get into REM after 1-2 hours. in an 8 hour night, you get about 6 hours of actual brain rest.

I however, don't get into it till about 6 hours in. Go figure.

I know how that is. As you may have been able to tell by the times I post at ;)
