So I thought, being probably the only one on here with a PS3 (yeah I know, I always said I wouldn't own one - but its a hell of a deal for a Blue-ray player), and seeing as though my sis (thanks Shaeleam) bought me a game for me B-Day, I thought I would give you a heads up on this title.

First off, it isn't GoW (Gears of War - Xbox 360), but in its own way, it is a decent FPS.  Granted I only played through the first hour on Single Player; but have spent over 20 hours easy on Co-op with a buddy, and we still haven't finished the game yet (not cause of its difficulty - but because of its content).  If it has one leg up on GoW, it is that the content and story of the game is a lot longer.  That is where I will stop to compare, as most of us have seen or played GoW and know what it is capable of, if only too short to play through.

Resistance: Fall of Man is set just as WWII ends.  The Russians release a viral chemical somewhere in northern Siberia (at least that is the theory you get from the game), for what I can't remember.  The chemical warfare turns back on the Russians, as it mutates the humans it touches starting a whole new race (Chimera).  This is what you end up fighting through out the game.  Mathew Hale is your name, and you are part of the US offensive to take back Europe.  Unfortunately it seems every time you get help in the game from fellow US or British soldiers, they end up dead way to fast - part of the feeling that you are all alone in this endeavor.

As you play through the game, you can find new weapons and intelligence (which can be used to unlock other stuff in the game, as well as fill in the blanks about your enemy or its history).  It is the weapons that are a great joy in the game.  Unique designs give you some of the more interesting play I've seen since the original UT days. Every weapon has two modes of fire, which is not uncommon nowadays in FPS, but usually these modes are complementary to each other. Some examples of the unique weapons below:

  • Tag and Replay - Similar to the movie Fifth Element, you have a gun that you can tag a baddy with, and then every bullet for a preset time goes to that target.  Great for shooting around cover.
  • Rail Gun with Sentry Option - Similar to a nail gun from Quake, this baby can bounce weapon fire off objects.  The second option is to shot a cluster of your clip into the air, and a remote sentry takes over and starts shooting anything it tracks with motion.  Looks like fireworks going off, and is as effective as a frag grenade with tracking.
  • Cover, who cares about stinkin' cover - Not sure what to compare this one too, but it is a definite bad boy.  This weapons primary fire and target system works through any structure in the game.  You can't see your enemy with the target system parsay, but it does light up read if you am it through a building and it sees someone.  Then let fire and you can mow down anyone hidding behind that damn cover.  Secondary puts up a shield wall in front of you that only this gun can fire through - yes that means unless your enemy has the same gun, you can put up these portable shields and lay down the pain.  Even stops rocket fire, which is impressive when the explosion is all around you, and you live.
  • And the rest - Well you have some others which are familiar to games we all have played: Shotgun (Primary Single, Secondary Double-barrel), Sniper (Primary Shot, Secondary Slow-mo for accurate shot), Machine Gun (Primary Autofire, Secondary Grenade/Rocket Launcher - hard to tell what it is), Goop Gun (Primary Slime Blobs that stick, Secondary Blow up blobs), Rocket Launcher (Primary Fire Homing Rocket, Secondary Take over Rocket), Exploding Grenades, Frag Grenades (but work like a hornet's nest), Sticky Grenades, and my fav Incendiary (basically like a time Molotov cocktail but way more effective).

So, to sum up, buddy and I are probably 25 hours in, and still need to complete.  Yeah some levels were hard and required multiple tries to finish, but overall I think this is a decent length of a game.  Graphics, well excellent, aren't GoW quality.  Game play, pretty fun, especially in Co-op.

Have another PS3 game to go over once were done with this one, but thought I would share with you guys.

Always interesting to hear what people think about games on other systems.

I went to the website a while back, it looks like a really neat game. I like how they intermingle the backstory with real-life events.

Can you post some screen shots?

Hmmm I know you can find them on the web, but I don't own a Digital Camera for my own screenies.  I'll see if I can dig up some from the interweb.

Ah, I see. I thought you could plug the PS3 DVI cable into your vid card. No worries though, I'll check out Gamespot or somesuch.

Never thought of that.  Oh well, too much work for a lazy gamer like me :P
