QuoteHero-Mode: A policy of continuously relying on the heroic efforts of staff in order to meet impossible deadlines, whilst ignoring the long term cost of failing to build in software quality from the outset.

Been there, done that! Nothing makes you feel worse to know that you made some pretty far-reaching commitments to help deliver crap software. It happens in a lot of shops (not just, you know, that place), people tend to start believing the bull@%&# when it comes to this style of development, especially when there is no real accounting of the cost of development over time. I think the worst part is how easy it is for most developers to fall into this kind of "we can do it if we try harder" mindset. If you have critical unknowns when you start a project you don't have all the information you need and if you don't know what you are supposed to deliver, well get ready to visit failure town.
