2009 is an entertaining amalgam of 2001 (obviously) and the campy 1958 film Queen of Outer Space. In fact, it's much more Queen than 2001 - the plot, costumes, sets and props (excluding the monolith), even the disintegrator are lifted right from the film. Most of the scenes as well, including the interrogation, the chase in the palace, the make-out and spider scenes in the cave... and the 50's babes.

Hence my not connecting the now-I-remember-it sketch "Jupiter and Beyond" to being a 2001 parody (I believe I saw 2001 many years *after* that SCTV sketch. (Scenes from an Idiot's Marriage, Prickley Heat, Das Boob ... I *so* remember seeing those fake-movie commercials... And being a bit too young to fully appreciate some of the references )
