People can't drive around here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NMnF5KZaZA, sorry no music.

Okay, you gotta watch part 2...

That's one icy road!

Quote from: Thorin on January 04, 2009, 04:23:56 PMI drove through that ice fog...  I pointed out the bright object in the sky, and my kids thought it was the moon.  I told them no, that was the sun!

One thing's for sure, when I first started driving yesterday the shocks were very stiff as the shock oil was thick like molasses...  Every bump felt like driving over a Smart car.  After a few minutes it got better, though.

LOL that is classic man, classic.

Lazy, that video was crazy...

Big hills, Big snow + bad tires, bad drivers make things a little crazy around here.

They also don't seem to have any snow REMOVAL equipment, the roads just keep getting more narrow as the plows pile up the snow on the shoulders. It warmed up and melted a little but now it is snowing some more.

Even the sky train has had trouble with ice falling into the automated switches and trees falling on the line from the burden of the snow. Nothing like being trapped in a train car for over 45min.

Still I am happy it isn't -40 here, I know that presents its own challenges.

Hah, Vancouverites have to shovel their own streets!

It is funny until you have to drive up or down a side street that is nothing but an icy RUT with big snow mounds on the sides.

I am lucky and live in a townhouse so the loop here has been cleared and we are just off of the buss rout so that road also has been cleared.

Like Edmonton in winter in 07?  Or 06?  Or 05?  The last three years I went to visit my mom I either drove through eight inches of ice-encrusted hard snow or had to park three feet from the sidewalk because of the giant windrows of snow that had been plowed (once per season!) from the center of the road to the side.  Remember, Edmonton doesn't put a lot of money in its budget for plowing sidestreets either, and the snow doesn't melt away after a week or two.  The only plus is that we don't have very many hilly sidestreets, living on the flat plains 'n all.

LOL this is just too funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHADUT5_4Ug&NR=1  - have to watch to the end!

WOW, thanks for that! Great find! Made me think, though, apparently common sense is lost when a metropolis is in balmier climate? Cuz you'd think the guy pulling that car would see that pulling the car THROUGH the snowbank = more effort required. How about he turns the wheels a bit, puts it in neutral, and he and a buddy rock it from the hood? At least as a first attempt...

Oh, btw, wow a lotta snow for such warm weather -- notice the roads are clear just from the melting snow, musta been a great time for the kids for building forts and having snowball fights!

Yep, Edmonton is flat. Try doing nothing but drive up and down the river valley in those conditions. I lived in the Edmonton area all my life prior to moving here, no one is equipped to handle the weather here and the hill make it worse.

That clip was from 2007, I saw it on the news.. That was when there was only like a day or two of snow that melted the same week.

They don't melt clear until later in the day, in the morning they are shear ice or slick greasy slush if it just snowed.
