Future Shop actually closed its website!  Isn't that ridonkulous?  Seriously?  They can't set up all their data offline and then do an instantaneous switchover?  Do they need someone to tell them how?

Need to drive sales at the stores I am thinking.

I hope they rot in... MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I actually broke my vow yesterday and bought something there after a year of abstinence. All the typical douchebaggery occurred, there was a crowd of staff standing around picking each others butts while all customers stood around laptops vainly seeking help, it was brilliant...

I'm pretty sure my experience at the new Future Shop in St. Albert was out of the ordinary, so let me tell you about it.

We went in looking for some gifts, specifically DS games, a nice bedroom stereo with iPod hookup, and some movies.  The DS games and movies were easy to find, didn't need any help.  The bedroom stereo, well, the only way to really see if they're worth the price being asked is to try them.  Of course, I didn't remember to actually bring an iPod...  So, sales girl comes by, sees me poking at the stereos, and says, "Would you like an iPod to test them out with?" (she'd been watching me move from one iPod-docking stereo to another).  AND THEN SHE LEFT ME ALONE WHILE I TRIED OUT DIFFERENT ONES!  She was helping a couple other people.  When I'd narrowed it down to a couple, she came back and asked me if I had any questions, then rang up my sale for me.

She was clearly pretty new to Future Shop, because she was actually helping the customers without hounding them.  Maybe I was just so surprised because I was expecting a no-help/every-salesperson-jumps-on-me kind of situation.

I hate Future Shop. This could be a way for them to try to create suspense for Boxing Day though. Sounds like a cheesy Marketing tactic they would use.

Well yeah, obviously it's a cheesy marketing tactic.  Everybody knows that you don't need to take a website down to change content.  Pissed me off that it happened while I was browsing their site, and pissed me off more that the prices for items after the big "sale" started was the same as before!

I use FS as a place to pickup stuff at the price I want based on the price another store has. I brush off sales staff as soon as they near me.

O BTW I hear they are closing a bunch of Bestbuy stores in Canada. I wonder if the ones RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from Futureshops will be first.
