I saw this and thought it was funny until I actually purchased one. WOW the guys in RnD must be deaf it is crazy loud compared to a normal chip bag.

Chip bags that can be composted?

But they make too loud a noise when opened improperly?

So they're being recalled and the old packages are coming back?

you lost me.

Like, how loud are we talkin' here?

I find it hard to believe that the bag would be so loud it would bug someone (either that or just put some of the chips in a bowl).

That is exactly what we did. Normally we would just eat them from the bag but it is loud enough to really be annoying when watching a movie.

I've bought many of the new bags... and yes you pretty much open and empty into a bowl, cause the bag is too loud when watching anything.  I don't mind that rather though, as a degradable bag is a great idea.

The sound of the bags are like nails on chalkboards to me.  Drive me nuts when they come through my till.  LOve the idea of being able to compost them.

I wonder in amazement at the science behind them.  A bag that does not decay while on the shelf, yet happily decays once thrown in the compost bin...  That's some serious science!  Too bad that they're so crinkly at the same time.

Aha. I thought that opening the bag by applying pressure until it "pops" = a lot louder than a normal "bag explosion" ... and was all confused cuz that's not the best (cleanest) way to open a bag of chips.

But watched a video, NOW I get it, the noise comes from barely crinkling the material itself, it's like bubble wrap but with fingers on a chalkboard, omg. Epic corporate fail!

PS: pretty cool for Fourth Of July promos though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czX8Ea6MvZE

some Youtubers have done "weekly video logs" and are having trouble getting any real decomposing, maybe it's like garbage bags that need direct sunlight + moisture? (which of course rarely happens 3 feet under a landfill).

A proper compost bin needs to have decay accelerated or started / assisted to work well.. On a farm or acreage that means adding manure or worms to aid break down.. City compost heaps rarely have the stuff that makes them fast, but you can add worms or as the one youtuber has suggested adding compost tea to get things going faster.

Our compost heap when I was growing up gave off warmth even when there was snow on the ground

P.S. I tired to record the bag crinkle sound with my phone but it is so load it sounds like static. I really like the idea of a compost bag considering how often I used to have chip bags and other garbage blow on to my lawn in Edmonton..

I put mine in a cereal bowl so I don't eat the whole friggin' bag.

I gotta be careful with sodium intake anyway, I'm on a pretty heavy diuretic and if I eat too much salt my body wants to get rid of it ASAP (or around 2:30 AM).
