I overheard the sentence fragment, "productivity porn", and asked the guy who said it what he meant.  Really, that just means being addicted to potentially-productivity-increasing items, like multi-coloured sticky notes.  We also briefly talked about Covey's Quadrants, which led me to this interesting article about time management:

It states something fairly obvious - that you must find a way to be inspired to do the things that must or should be done.  Still, it presents that idea in a clear format.

Motivation trumps organization every time. You could have the best structure for "getting work done" BUT if you aren't motivated you will find ways to get around it, no matter what your system is.

I've found this for any task that requires effort, work-related or not.

My desk always looks like a paper bomb has gone off on it yet when I get excited about a project it doesn't slow me down... Ok maybe a little but I dig until I get what I need and then run..

My old boss used to pontificate on the importance of keeping ones' e-mail inbox empty...

Mind you this is the same type of brain genius that tells his staff there's not enough money for wage increases and then shows them his brand new Mazarati.

Whatever works, works, don't change it.

The only "trick" I have is if you are getting bored with what you do spend a couple hours and complete rearrange your computer placement. I don't know what it is but when I moved my computer to the other side of the desk I felt more engaged.

I just realized that the same trick they use on polar bears in the zoo work on me... (i.e. changing the environment a little to make it "more interesting".)

Years ago I got the free CD. It's worth a listen for sure. Plenty of simple but effective "tips". Including something similar to the "Covey Quadrant" way of categorizing tasks.
