or have they just got to the point where the money bin is full enough for Scrooge to swim in?

It used to be a 14 day trial, with limitations.  Now it is a level 20 trial, probably still with some limitations.  Means you can play as long as you want to only 1/4 of the content.

My guess is that future updates will contain little or no new content for the missions under lvl 20 .
