While the movie based on the original series was lacking I will say I loved the original series from Nickelodeon and highly recommend it for kids and adults alike.  I can't wait for this one to come out as well!

Movie? What movie?

*cough* anyway

I feel some trepidation toward this, they're moving away from fantasy adventure to something a bit more gritty. The storyline is mostly going to revolve around the happenings in a city and its internal struggle between people with bending powers and people without.

We'll see how well a cartoon about class struggle can play out I guess...

So it's basically a movie version of the arc where they are all in that big walled city?

The Movie that came out a bit ago was a live action version of the first season of the TV series.  Problem was, as with most book adaptations to the big screen, trying to tell the whole season in a 2.5h movie or whatever it was, wasn't very successful for any whom had watched the TV series...

The movie, which I refuse to acknowledge, was a big clumsy mess.

The new series is going to have a more steampunk-y feel and is set 100 years after the events of the original series. Korra is the new Avatar and she is going to be the opposite of Aang from what I've seen so far (hotheaded, brash, etc).

We'll see how it pans out I guess...
