Wait, Microsoft isn't trying to push this via their own online store of some kind?

I thought Games for Windows Live was a dismal failure that they've stopped supporting (which may bork some of my games actually, thinking about it)

I honestly don't understand how they made that fail, if they had ported the XBL experience to Windows it would have soared, instead we got something more along the lines of Windows Mobile App Store, which was clunky, horrible and had very few actual things to buy/download.
