The big part that most people are talking about is how Watterson has stated that he will never allow an animated version.

Mostly its about creative control (i.e. he doesn't want to relinquish anything, which is understandable).

Personally I would hate to see something I love become a @%&#ty film adaptation so a studio can make a quick buck

Dilbert was fantastic and did nothing to take away from the comic original.

But that was an unexpected surprise; no doubt any adaptation of C&H would be accused of Lucasing many childhoods...
