I had a nasty run-in several years back with Futurehop and I have to say they've completely turned around how they deal with customers.

First off I bought a Sharp speaker set for my parents' TV, it uses ARC via HDMI so in theory it should just plug in and go, well we plugged it in and it didn't go, we called Sharp support and they said there was likely an issue with the box, now when I bought the speaker set I got the extended service plan deal (which was I think 25 bux), I also had them send me an electronic receipt. So we boxed up the speaker set and brought it back to Futureshop and returned it for another one without any problems. They didn't have another one in stock but they are going to deliver it to my house for free.

No fuss, no muss, and the customer service support didn't give us any guff...

It was refreshing.

Futureshop you're back on my good list

Yeah the one at South Commons has been very helpful in the last year for me as well!

Some of their protection plans are still stupidly expensive, though.

I bought an HP Split x2 as a replacement for the ASUS Transformer 300 I'd bought a couple of years ago.  We only had the Transformer for a couple of months before the kids broke it, although after the fact I found out that Transformers had very weak glass.  Anyway, the Split is another tablet-with-keyboard-with-batteries-in-both, but the Split runs full Windows 8 meaning I can install regular Windows programs on it (gotta get Minecraft on there!).

The Split x2 cost $700.  There were two options for protection plans on the Split x2.  The first covers hardware for two years and costs $160.  The second covers hardware, accidental damage (falls, water, etc), and software installation and "tune-ups" (yeah, thanks, I maintain my own computers).  The second option cost $25 a month for three years.  That's $900!  Great, so I pay more than double what it costs, in case my kids drop it in water?  Or I could just save that money and buy myself a new one if it gets broken...

Anyway, the sales guys kept trying to steer me towards an iPad Air because "it's more portable"; of course it also cost $750 instead of $600-$700 for the laptops with multi-touch screens, and iPads can only run the apps available in the app store while the laptops I was looking at were running a full OS (Windows 8 ).  I think they just make more commission off of the iPads.  Or maybe they're not on commission anymore?
Prayin' for a 20!

The other thing I've noticed is that the staff only ask you if you need help once now instead of glomming on and being pests

Yeah, I haven't actually been super annoyed with FS lately. Though the dude that was "helping" me get my receiver wasn't very knowledgeable. Nice enough guy though.
