With all the talk about the PS3 and eBay I thought I would check out how much they are going for.

Looking at completed auctions for preorders, they average around $1,500 CAN, with a hand full less, and several in the $5,000 range!

Note that those special eBay rules posted about before only apply to preorders, so if you wait till after lauch to list the extra rules do not apply.

Hmm maybe I should camp out Friday morning, at the slim chance of getting a system somewhere..

A lot less then I expected.  Frankly I was hoping to see $1800+, most of them include a couple games and are right around the $1500 area

There where several for $5000, and also note that there is a difference between the 60 and 20GB versions.

Still more than doubling your money.

Interesting read.  As expected, many consoles were snapped up only so that they can be sold on eBay for a profit.  I still don't get why people would pay an extra thousand dollars for a game console, whereas if they wait two months all the hype will have disappeared and they can have it for a regular price.  But then, I'm not a "hardcore gamer in need of the latest hardware".

From the article, I learned that the PS3 is going for 60,000 yen in Japan and that poor Chinese people in Japan were being paid 20,000 yen to stand in line.  So that's, what, about $220 to stand in line for a night?
Prayin' for a 20!

All in all, the PlayStation 3 is one of the most takeapart-ready consoles we've ever seen, an enormous departure from the Xbox 360 mentality.  We've already completed our first hack by attaching a 320GB hard drive to the console, and the system hasn't even launched in the US yet.  The PlayStation 2 was one of the most difficult consoles to disassemble and hack, yet we're not even out the door yet and things seem to bode well for the brave hacker and the PlayStation 3.

Sony made it *that* easy to use non-Sony addons? Cool...

The hard drive was to always be upgradeable, the platform is supposed to be sort of Open.

It also uses bluetooth for its wireless, so supposedly you could use your own Bluetooth headset from your phone for PS3.

So I was in the local walmart and saw the reserved shelf space for the Wii and PS3.. Also asked the clerk if they where doing any launch events.

Apparently they arn't and based on past must have consoles they will likely do a ticket system, you get a ticket you get a system.

The odd thing is that she thinks she heard they are getting 40 units, which seems rather high.. If it is true that is a good chance at a PS3, however that seems more in line with the expected number of Wii's you would expect a store to get.

They open at 7AM on Friday, I am tempted to check if a line forms in in the early hours.
