Somtimes I think Sony is the Root of all Corporate Evilness (PS3)

After Sony was criticised for not including dual shock in their controllers, and stating that it wasn't going to be an option on the PS3, they wait a year+ and do this: http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/34358/PS3-gets-Rumble-Controller

QuoteSony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it would release DUALSHOCK3 Wireless Controller, a new controller for PLAYSTATION3 (PS3) incorporating a rumble feature, in Japan in November as a separately sold accessory. It inherits the basic design and functionality of the popular PlayStation? controller, while keeping the high-precision, high response motion sensitive six-axis sensing system. Introduction to North American and European markets is expected in spring 2008.
The added rumble feature, combined with the highly realistic motion sensitive six-axis sensing system, takes gamers deeper into the world of interactivity, delivering a more intuitive, realistic and immersive game play experience. The new controller will also benefit PS3 content creators, by giving them the ability to further expand their creative imagination. PS3 titles that are already in the market may become compatible with the rumble feature through software update.

With DUALSHOCK 3 and the attractive lineup of PS3 titles incorporating the rumble feature, SCEI will introduce more new ways of enjoyment that can only be found on PS3, and will further redefine the world of entertainment.

Way to piss off your customer base even more... say we aren't going to do it, so everyone buys the system, then wait a year+ and say o-yeah, we can do it and will charge you to buy them seperately.  GRRRRRRR!

If it weren't for exclusive titles there'd be no reason at all to buy a PS3.

Well not really now, but when it first came out it was a cheap BlueRay player ;)

But who would want that anyway? At launch if I recall you could get a Blu-Ray player for under $500. Heck, most PS2 owners still don't know it has a DVD player in it I don't see that as a selling feature.

Actually at PS3 launch you couldn't get a BlueRay player, or HD-DVD player for under $1000 CDN (cept the xbox 360 add on drive); well one that actually would play all media, I think there were some knock-offs for about $700 at the time.  Hense the reason I bought one, looking into the pricing of the players and seeing that at least the PS3 would get software updates.  And at the time there were talks (and still are a bit) that movie industry would split down the middle or weigh in on one side or the other for which media they would support.

For me it was a sell feature, which I have enjoyed for my Disney movies (Disney only going BlueRay for now - Pirates movies!).  And yeah there are some exclusive games I might have to check out, but I am still way more anti-sony, even owning the PS3, which I think as a gaming console is way over-hyped and doesn't hold a candle to the Wii or 360.

Remember when Sony claimed they didn't include rumble in their controllers because it was "so last-generation"?

And then the Internet was a-buzz with rumours that it was actually that they couldn't license the rumble feature cheap enough?

And then people said Sony lies through its teeth, but Sony fanboys kept hanging on to Sony's "last-generation" explanation?

Yeah, turns out Sony just lies whenever it wants to about whatever it wants to in order to rope in consumers.  Thus, I vote with my dollars and try to avoid buying Sony gear.

A quick bit of Googling revealed that back in 2006 there were "high end" decks for as expensive as $1800 (Pioneer I believe) but as low as $100 (some Chinese brand). The point being is in 2006 who would go out of their way to buy a PS3 for the Blu-Ray player? It was certainly Sony's marketing intention but that of course fell flat.
