When I first heard about the VS2010 'chieves (through /. of course) I thought it was kind of a fun idea UNTIL the details started coming out.

There is A LOT of encouragement for bad practises and there is no team or company based control. So to me this seems like a massive waste of a great idea.

I would wholly embrace an achievement system that rewards best practises.

The gameplay can be very uneven. Some play sessions are an exercise in frustration. It can be difficult to even create a dungeon in the first place, and the game gives few indications of what you're doing wrong.

^ sounds like the occasional "typical day" for a coder ;)
