^ a collection of wisdom from multiple experts. In brief...

pick one resolution.

break the goal into steps, have a plan.

reward yourself for progress.

realize you may screw up -- keep at it.

keep it tiny.

surround yourself with supportive friends.

it takes an average of 66 days to establish a new good habit.

to stop bad habits, replace them with another habit, and avoiding triggers.

WRITE IT DOWN.

and most of all [guilty!] "knowing" is useless without DOING (i.e. it's not enough to direct the "rational mind", you also have to motivate the "emotional mind").

PS: might be a good idea to not make your resolution(s) while your brain is still high on GABA on low on GLUTAMATE (i.e. "thinking clearly about almost nothing"). (FASCINATING youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/AsapSCIENCE/videos )

Mr. Analog

This is good for goal setting in general anyway, smaller focused goals are easier to achieve than larger nebulous ones.
