HOLY GODS this speaks to me: http://blog.ninlabs.com/2013/01/programmer-interrupted/

Another interesting read is "Maker's Schedule, Manager's Schedule", which really showcases how there are two different main activities in a company and how the people engaged in those activities simply have a completely different mindset: http://www.paulgraham.com/makersschedule.html

Nice find -- also it got me to this other article (actually a SE question+discussion) that really makes me shake my head in disbelief @ stupidity of some suits:

My last job had stupid people with stupid rules like that.  That business has soundly failed, at least to the point that the owner was forced out by creditors less than a year after I left.

Yeah the cluelessness of clueless PHBs is so... limitless...

Your OP eventually also got me to this , ending with me arriving at something that beautifully sums up what I think I've been doing virtually every day of my life for more than a decade (a reasonable response to "overchoice" of information, I suppose) ).

So... thanks for the distraction (  ;) ) but seriously thanks -- good, filling Food For Thought.

PS: imo merging this with http://forums.righteouswrath.com/index.php/topic,9520.0.html = makes sense, or something. Or not, meh, I'm gonna jump back into the Code Zone now so whatevs.

Nice find there.  CPA enables one to turn into a know-it-all that doesn't really know anything.

NOT SURE IF SERIOUS

OR SUBTLE BACK-HANDED INSULT

;)

But it's a real "thing";  even well-known journalist Thomas Friedman mentioned it, in a New York Times article "The Age of Interruption" -- and that was 8 years ago! And in the years that followed, as a result of this cultural phenomena, some folks split people into "digital native" or "digital immigrant" classes -- rather ominous concept ; boy, now I feel old and near-obsolete...
