Those of us who watched a handful of eps this summer were blown away by how well Oliver did in his "substitute teacher" role. Nobody can replace Stewart, but Oliver did an amazing job making us forget who is normally behind the Big Desk.

So the IMDB comments were all about "when Stewart leaves TDS will Oliver be picked as his replacement? etc. etc.

Now, looks like probably not.

...because he's getting his own satire news show on HBO!

PS: watching 2nd season of Community, every damn scene Oliver is in (as "Professor" Duncan) is hilarious, a drunk Brit college psychologist who really doesn't give a crap about the mental health of of his students? NAILS IT.

Also, boy has a podcast too. All satire, apparently. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1056659/board/nest/145050651

Yeah, he did a good job.  Dunno if I'll end up watching it, as it's on HBO and that's a pay-extra channel.

The Daily Show has been spot-on for years.  And has really latched onto Rob Ford the last couple of weeks (but come on, that's easier than when they would make fun of George W. Bush).

Not now but maybe soon, HBO is testing it in the US with Comcast http://variety.com/2013/biz/news/comcast-becomes-first-pay-tv-distributor-to-offer-hbo-without-basic-cable-1200761863/

Yeah, I thought Oliver did an excellent job. I'll have to see how quickly his new show goes up on the internets ;)

And so it has begun (premiered April 27, 2014 -- weekly but certainly not weakly) !

I gotta say John Oliver has found the perfect hosting sweet spot between Jon Stewart's Daily Show overly-seriousness and Joel McHale's Soup smarminess!

For example, here is how he beautifully and self-mockingly handled that ridic "right to be forgotten" EU search engine case:

(and SWEARING really works for his style of delivery  8) )

BTW forum admins what is up with the LAG today?

Oliver & Co. deal with the newly-rehashed Net Neutrality issue.
Briliantly, as usual.

Sometimes the page takes many many seconds to load.

The lag issue is worse that it simply taking a few extra seconds to load some of the time.

In all web browsers, what is happening is that most* page requests are completely failing -- if it doesn't complete within 5 seconds you might as well just press F5. But ditto for SUBMITTING an edit or new post, which means I am back to the old "copy to Notepad before hitting Submit" way of doing things to be safe :(

*then suddenly it's all lightning-quick response times (which is when I can paste from Notepad, yay!)

How about splitting the lag issue into its own thread in the Help forum or something?

LastWeekTonight is starting a new series examining the leader of not-the-United-States countries.

WOW Australian prime minister Tony Abbott has a way with words!

(or perhaps he's a robot, and @ 2:54 until 3:14 he was simply rebooting!?)
