I've killed over 500 zombies from those spawners already and haven't had any problems with zombies spawning outside the kill zone. What I've noticed is that zombies have one to two hit points more than skeletons - I drop them 22 blocks which should leave them with one hit point and be one hit killable and the skeletons are, but the zombies take two punches before they drop.

The zombies at the skelly farm are spontaneously spawning in caves around it. They don't affect the spawn rate of the skeletons.

Anyway, this XP farm is quick. If you let it sit for ten minutes to load up on zombies and skellies, you will be level 45 by the time you finally clear them all out. And it's decked out with a lava disposal, enchanting table, and full library.

Maybe I'll build a Tele-Portal to it.

Location of the Super XP Farm should now show up on the overviewer.  Above-ground entrance (turn on signs to find it): http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-139/64/1372/-1/0/0.  Cave view (turn on signs to make it obvious): http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-220/64/1401/-1/0/2.  Portal in the nether (yes, turn on signs to find it easier): http://mc.tomasu.org/#/33/64/110/max/1/0.

Well, once the overviewer updates you'll see this stuff, anyway.

I didn't realize just how close I was to my hotel, I'd wandered all over further south and at some point must've turned north.

I might have to build a track from there to my new base, in the nether.

Umm, follow the stone brick road already laid out in the nether, since your new base already connects to my stone brick hallways there.  No need to build extra paths.

Your new base's portal in the nether: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/220/64/-10/max/1/0
The super XP farm's portal in the nether: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/27/64/119/max/1/0
The path in between: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/126/64/40/-2/1/0

Really, it should be simple for you to get there.

The problem is the distance, not that a path doesn't exist. :P I'm lazy. get in a cart, press button, arrive a minute or two later at destination. much better for my rsi ;)

Oh, I missed the keyword "track", my mind read that as "path" or "hallway".  Well, don't mess up my beautiful hallways please :)

I suspect I'll have to build it over or under the paths. Because there are often branches on both sides.

I built a portal right in the killing chamber at the super XP farm. What I've noticed is that if I step into the nether, the number of mobs in the killing chamber is remembered. This means that I can use the portal to enter the nether, then travel back to my hotel portal and get back to my hotel, and when I come back to the super XP farm tomorrow I don't have to wait for it to load up.

It's kinda neat stepping in from the nether and having 50 or so mobs waiting for me already.

Also, I'm trying to get Silk Touch in a book so I can put it on shears and absolutely no luck yet (and I've done 25 books already, thanks Tom for them).

Hm, I've lost waiting mobs in the skelli grinder by going to the nether. I wonder if its that portal doing something strange.

Mr. Analog

I think there is a relationship between distances and unloading even in different dimensions.

It was my understanding that once you teleport out of range of a chunk (including across dimensions), the chunks you were in are unloaded, and any mobs in those chunks are deleted.

Well it could be how close the portal is.  However, I've gone from the kill room through the portal then used /home to go to my hotel, then logged off, and the same mobs were still there the next day.  So I dunno why, but I've shown up and had 50+ mobs waiting for me.  If I walk away far enough without switching dimensions, they're gone when I get back.
