It's kinda funny to think about what would actually happen on a ship that's 260 kilometers in length...
You have to view the image up close and read the letter sent from its commander to fleet headquarters.

The toilet paper budget alone for a ship that size...!
260km long, if the captain were to tour it bow to stern, that's almost like walking to Calgary. Sure, they'll have internal transport systems. Lets say they've made turbolifts that travel at 50km/h. That'd still be FIVE HOURS to get from the back to the front...

"CAPTAIN, TO THE BRIDGE -- STAT!"
...sigh...
President Skroob: The ship is too big. If I walk, the movie will be over.
It'd be fine if it was startrek. just use point to point transporters :D silly starwars and your antiquated tech.

More like O_O -- did you forget the transporter death scene in the first ST motion picture? Or McCoy's desire to avoid the bloody things in Next Gen (iirc)? Transporters have a very low fail rate, sure, but it's a non-zero probability (http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Relics_(episode)), not suitable for multiples-per-day usage imo... unless you get everyone to sign a waiver re. the melting of the body or fryig of the brain of the occasional random victim (http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Transporter#Transporter_accidents) etc.

Sure, it happens. More people die in car crashes and slipping in the shower though.
