An upcoming game from Compulsion Games of Montreal, is sort of a blend of Bioshock and The Prisoner. You are thrust into an alternate 1960s mod London where you have to fit in with a drugged up totalitarian society. If you aren't "in" you are "out"

https://youtu.be/cc67_BrCdPc

It certainly looks good and the gameplay mechanic of trying to hide in plain sight is an interesting one.

From what the devs were saying at PAX it's going to be out in about a year or so

ZOMG the talking head guy with his creepy makeup and overall vibe TOTALLY reminded me of the "Milliways" MC (Max Quordlepleen) in the old 1980s HHGG miniseries... [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljdtM1uBQkA#t=13m06s ] "Well" cast!

Maybe it's just me, though?

PS: tiny teases of gameplay in this developer interview from PAX -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgwZ62KjMwk

It's spot on yeah

The creep factor was intentional, I guess the devs took the time to actually get involved in the production / direction of the filmed short they incorporated into the teaser trailer and found it quite challenging to get exactly the right balance of creepy unreality, I think they nailed it.

Like uncanny valley x10

Anyway, here's hoping the game delivers!

Oddly enough there are some extremely minor aspects to this "be inconspicuous" mechanic in Bioshock Infinite, there's a point where you're dumped off at a loading dock and as long as you don't go where you're not supposed to (and don't steal anything) none of the enemies will aggro. It's an interesting mechanic I wish more games used.

BTW on the subject of HHGG -- the movie -- quite a few years have now passed and film technology keeps getting better and cheaper etc. and therefore imo THIS needs to happen. (I would especially like to see how they deal with the bird-people and the statue on Frogstar etc. Not to mention the TPV -- and hey why not the man in the shack (with the fun banter with The Lord of course!) while we're at it? And to have ALL of these wacky bits in a single film = could be some REALLY fun entertanment! In this present anticipation-sharing meme-heavy culture this kind of SciFi/Fantasy event could really be a huge success imo...)

I would greatly enjoy that

I updated my post above with a few other things.

Seriously the "Restaurant" summary I linked to + proper advance-excitement promotion to the internet-savvy tweens-thru-college-age audience = Great Success (the timing now > the timing of the first HHGG film).

ALSO ps: INFOCOM almost made a sequel!

In addition and also PPS: hey Mr. A and any other HHGG fan, have you read and do you have any opinion to share about the 6th book in the trilogy?

I'm conflicted about the 6th book, on one hand I'm very curious but on the other hand it's not completely Douglas Adams.

I suppose I could just take the risk, if that lets me fit in, citizen

One reviewer called it "the best post-mortem impersonation I have ever read"...

I'm backing this project now! I signed up for the pre-alpha too so if it's a success I'll get into it as early as JULY

There are so many things to like about this, it has the survival elements of The Long Dark combined with a trippy mod version of Jolly Old

I'M HYPE

3 Stretch Goals reached!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/112359230/we-happy-few-welcome-to-wellington-wells-you-saucy

Quote$265,000.00 Drug Paradise

We'll create additional, craftable drugs derived from Joy that enhance certain traits (ie - hearing, seeing, stamina), and expand the direct visual and audio feedback of being high, by changing elements of the world to better reflect your happy, euphoric state. We'll also develop additional status effects for crashing, withdrawal and addiction.

$280,000.00 New Game Mode: Sandbox Mode, in Customizable Worlds

We will create a new game mode: an indefinite mode, set in a world that you can customize as you wish (larger, smaller, more dangerous, less food, more Wellies, etc).

$315,000.00 Extra Uncle Jack Shows

More Uncle Jack! We'll go out and take an additional set of Uncle Jack shows, to be seen in-game. We have 32 episodes right now, but will add another 20.

WOOP

I got an e-mail the other day about the pre-alpha testing keys, apparently they didn't expect so many people to contribute at that level so they're trying to work out the logistics of sending out the keys for July

I've been watching a lot of let's plays and the game has already progressed significantly since the early pre-alpha at the end of May was released, the game already looks fun even at this level, with more and more being added all the time. It's amazing what a small dev team can do

I AM LOVING THIS GAME

The dread of getting cornered and people starting to figure you out is INTENSE

The feel of fitting in without anyone being the wiser INTENSE

Just exploring and everything, wow
