Windows 7 gives you an easy to use interface for USB microphones, there are two sliders; one slider is microphone volume, the other is boost. And in Win 7 things didn't usually sound too bad with the default settings.

Flash forward to Windows 10 and you'll find that your once perfectly configured USB mic sound super quiet, so you start playing with the volume controls and find that... unless you crank thinks up to 90% or more you can barely hear yourself, anything over 90% means things get super loud and your mic will pick up EVERYTHING.

So how do you get control of your USB audio in back? Easy! With Equalizer APO and a plugin for it called Peace:

Now I just use one of the default presets on the mixer, what you are mostly interested in is the slider at the top that allows you to fine control your mic input by decibel, check out the screenshot so see my settings
