Serenity Sequel Push -- CALLING ALL BROWNCOATS

I would love to see a sequel to the Firefly movie "Serenity".

http://www.serenityday.org/
"On June 23, we aim to misbehave. Serenity and Firefly are worth fighting for, and we will show our numbers by purchasing Serenity on June 23 en masse, proving to Universal that Serenity deserves to keep flying. Join us, and we can do the impossible again. SPREAD THE SIGNAL."

I was visiting YouTube today and discovered a Joss Whedon interview that reveals the very real possibility of a Serenity sequel (and he discusses other stuff)  8)

Apparently some are also saying that the two "deceased" characters might even be back in a sequel! (probably in some typically touching/heartstring-tugging Whedon flashback/montages.)

Like many who appreciated the Serenity film plenty (not just cuz of knowledge of the series, I enjoyed it "stand alone" as well) I purchased the DVD the first week it was available. According to some industry figures, the box office + the DVD sales has just brought the revenue into the "black", including the 10Million that Universal wasted on idiotic marketing that completely overlook character/storytelling and focused instead on spaceships and explosions

I'm taking part -- perhaps my brother would enjoy a copy for his July birthday (even though he has apparently dismissively pre-judged the whole 'verse by seeing 5 minutes of the series that I was watching with audio commentary playing, oops...)

(also see similar motive, but way more bold an endeavor: http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/faq/ , http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/disclaimer/ )

Cool.  One problem is, I already have Serencity on DVD.  Maybe I can buy a copy and gift it upon a certain non-Firefly fan to try and convert him to the faith? :)

Lazybones

I like the show, but they sort of ended it with the movie, and that is how it should stay.

It is almost like an automatic "jump the shark" if you bring back everyone you killed off.

Really we have seen that enough times already with Star Trek and Buffy.

Yeh, the sequel "Brokeback Asteroid" was deemed not 'explody" enough for the Fox executives...

While I believed the way Spike died in Buffy finale totally rocked and was thus disappointed when he got "recorporated" in Angel (although his line near the end of the Angel finale about "but I'm not wearing any amulets, necklaces... " was spit-take funny!) I doubt that Joss would do anything in the Firefly 'verse other than have memory flashbacks of the 2 characters killed off in Serenity.

And although the film did "conclude" the storyarc if necessary, there's a still unquestionably lot of good character development from the series (and also the movie, to a smaller degree) that could be well utilized to take the viewers into even more interesting, exciting, emotional, and of course funny, territory.

Heck, maybe Jayne will fall in love or something ;)

Why Firefly Will Never Die 8-)

Yeah, having LRRP'ers on your side isn't always a good thing...

Do U mean RLRP'ers? ;D

LRP, LARP whatever you want to call it, they are considered the geeks of geeks (i.e. when D&D players / comic collectors snicker about the guys running around with capes and dice in cups you know you're at the bottom of the Nerd Hierarchy).

Tomorrow is the day when 'coats everywhere storm the retailers and buy their siblings, ex-spouses, and co-workers a copy of "Serenity". I'm picking up one copy for the mother of my children (she actually liked the far-more-violent "V For Vendetta", and in Serenity there's a lot more "eye candy" for her to enjoy as well ;) )

How about the rest of you? "Vote with your wallets", tell Hollywood what kind of film you want to see -- otherwise there will be more crap greenlighted like  ... well, dare I say it? Road House 2 ;)

PS: Edmonton has a charity screening on June 24th:

Without beer!

Chuck Norris has never bought beer because his adrenal glands have developed an ability to produce their own high-quality Canadian ale. ;)
