Looks like ass when compared to the screens for the PS3 and 360

As long as they preserve the fun, I don't care!

Nintendo is gambling that the novelty of their new interface for exiting gamers, and its supposed intuitiveness and lack of intimidation for new gamers, will overcome the system's lack of video graphic advance over the XBox 360 and PS3.  Only time will tell if this will prove successful.

Shayne

Ustauk nailed it.  The problem I see is that its a 5 year bet.  The innovation of the new interface might do well in the early period (first 2 years?) but as the systems age and the developers start getting the jucies flowing from the PS3 and 360 its gonna be interesting to see if the folks making nintendo games can still find interesting ways of waving your hand around.

I wouldn't want to play CoD like that.  Nintendo-thumb is bad enough when gaming for hours at a time - imagine how sore your arms will be after a few hours of sighting down your controller and waving your arms around.  It might be good for gamers that need excersize, but I like to sit still and relax while I play.

Shayne

(exercise one arm, i doubt i can play (effectively) the Wii ambidextrous)

Either way, I'm glad there is some good 3rd party support already.

Well, I find the idea of picking up a stick (or controller) and pointing it at where I want to shoot much more intuitive than trying to figure out how to aim with the joystick while simultaneously moving.  Same reason we didn't use our Atari joysticks as toy guns when we were little.  I do wonder, though, how do you tell your guy to move if you're using your controller to aim?

As for arm or muscle soreness, well, isn't it closer to the real thing?

As pictured here, in fps you use a secondary controller wired to the primary, coloquially called the nunchuck.  Its basically an analog thumstick with a forefinger trigger, but it should be intuitive enough for moving around while the main controller is used to aim.

Shayne

I agree Thorin, its probably far easier to point the stick towards the boss guy, i just wish Nintendo would have had the hardware to match.

Look at it this way - there's still a large group of players who use regular-definition 4:3 perspective TVs to play their games on.  XBox 360 and PS3 probably won't look much different on these than XBox and PS2 did.  Now, you use a 16:9 HD DLP TV, right?  So you'll notice the difference.  I use a 10-year-old 27" 4:3 curved-tube TV.  And I'll end up buying the Wii (if I buy anything) because it's cheap, it's easy to use, and it has more kid-oriented games.

I guess what I'm saying is there's a bigger market than just twenty-something gamers.

For me it always boils down to fun gameplay, I mean I'd trade in a million Hi-Def GTA clones for one copy of WarioWare. Heck I even use my cart adapter on my GC to play a lot of fun Gameboy and GBA games.

Nice graphics are a bonus, don't get me wrong, but at the heart of any game is fun. CoD, even on PC isn't exactly graphics intensive, but it's a helluva lot of fun, and I can't wait to see it on the Wii.

This seems to be kinda pointed at me, as I'm the one playing on a 16:9 HD DLP TV.  But if you read my previous posts, I didn't complain at all about the graphics - I think the Wii will do fine compared to the 360 and PS3 in terms of graphics and cpu power - its the controllers I'm not convinced about yet.  Right now - hold your hand up beside your head and pretend you were aiming down your controller like the guy is in that first screenshot in the original post.  Now imagine holding your arm like that for 5 hours - I think I'll be happy with a standard controller resting on my lap.
