tired of Microsoft thinking it knows better than you?

I'm pretty tired of Microsoft thinking it knows better than me what settings I want. When I do an Internet Explorer update and it reverses half of my settings (such as turning back ON "friendly URLs" and whatnot) it pisses me off.

But I never thought of actually INVOICING Mr. Gates for lost productivity!

That's what this one guy did, when Windows Update decided to REBOOT your computer even though you had selected "custom" i.e. "*I* will restart when I choose!"

I totally feel this guy's pain -- Over the last year I have found I'm a lot less likely to keep browser or other windows open when I leave my station for more than a few minutes ::)

You could have a Freespire OS in ~20 minutes.

cool ness! (hehe "linux for human beings" ouch!)

Funny that there's 2 separate threads currently being responded to (the other being this one) that deal with Microsoft's hubris and unwanted intrusion in the free choice of users ::)

Most employers only "support" IE, and the O.S. is even more difficult to deviate from.

Now see what you did with your silly statement: you made me dangle a participle! ;)

What about at home?  Sure I bet you moved off IE but .... OS?  Mac OS is amazingly great ive been using it hardcore for about a month.  Linux is also pretty great I hear.

Me=waiting for MacOS that runs on Intel... (some of us can't afford to replace our recently-acquired Wintel hardware just cuz we hate the O.S.)

Also, when I got my hardware I was playing CoH a lot, and occasionally other games. Now, pretty much no gaming at all. So yeah, pretty close to zero reason to stay with WinXP (definitely not moving "up" to Vista aka "Windoze NoPoint")

MacOS does run on Intel :)  I have a duel core macbook sitting beside me :)  As for a hacked copy for your workstation, good luck with that as drivers would end up being a serious bitch of a problem im certain.

Vista is a different story.  one day im all about it, the next not so much.  its got some ideas i love, but ideas i hate.  I will probably invest in the uber edition for my home workstation as i like the xbox360 media center connectivity, but i doubt i will upgrade the XP running on my macbook.

Which is yet another different story.  10.5 OSX is about 6 months away.  that the 6th release of OSX since XP was released.  Assuming you bought every version thats like $1200 for the latest and greatest yet Microsoft gave us SP2 for free (basically the equiv).  I doubt i will buy 10.5 as it offers me nothing I will use.
