Bad angles / quality, but they are sort of funny.

And yes, they totally emphasize making an ass of your self in front of others.

Interesting stuff, a different view of advertising from every company out there.  I don't like the cheesiness of these adds though, the come off as very cheap and make the console seem more like a board game (party game) then a next-gen console.

Nintendo may come out the "winner" as the focus on different markets might pay off.

Speaking of commercials, I like Microsoft's focus on multi player as well in its latest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By7nzqzcloo

Summary:

Nintendo: Fun for the whole family... Not just a console for kids or teens.
Microsoft: Play online with your buds NOW, we have been doing this online stuff for months
Sony: Fear our awesome power, never mind what our console does.

"Wii would like to play."

That bowling game looks especially fun, so Wii Sports is a definite must-buy (or would be, if it didn't come with the unit) however I wonder if Boxing was such a good choice to include in the selection of sports ::) a little too easy for the kids to replay the same body motions outside of the game, why didn't they include fencing instead ;)

Playing Tennis or Baseball teaches you to hit things with a stick.  What if they hit other kids with a stick?  That's real easy to replay the same body motions.  Fencing would teach them how to hit other kids *with sharp objects*, so that might be a bad idea too, if you're actually concerned about kids being taught to fight.

As far as I'm concerned, teaching a child how to hit does not immediately teach them to hit others, nor does not teaching them how to hit stop them from hitting others.  What influences whether a child hits another child has much more to do with the reaction of those around the hitter than it does with their skills.  Case in point, study a daycare with toddlers.  If the workers take the time to tell the hitter No and move him or her to another activity, the toddler will eventually get the idea that hitting isn't tolerated.  If the workers don't bother taking the time, the daycare will surely close within a year as all the parents withdraw their kids.

Sorry, fellow parent... Wasn't saying they would "learn" how to use their hands to hit other people in the face. (they already know that, luckily don't act on that knowledge very often ;) ) I also have learned (haha) that kids will do stupid/dangerous/antisocial things, and keep doing them if they encounter no negative consequenes (e.g. if other kids keep playing with them even though they are treating them like crap -- which seems a real-world lesson that *so* many kids haven't learned until adulthood, from what I've seen and heard on bus/train rides, sadly...)

I guess I was just expressing a concern about the kinetic memory: the visuals they will keep seeing + the motions of the body that trigger those visuals. Combine that with "would you like someone to hit you in the face? No? Then don't hit others in the face. UNLESS it's for sport, then it's okay." (Actually, if both participants consent, it is "okay" in my book -- just stupid, pointless, not exactly my idea of a "sport". So if my kids grow up inspired to be professional boxers thanks to Wii Sports I won't think less of them, although watching press conferences with Cassius Clay then vs. now might be helpful ;) )

Anyway...
Time will tell, I am sure there will be sue-happy idiot litigious a-holes that blame the Wii for everything from bullying to drug overdoses... Lord save us from the liewyers... ::)

Thanks for the "reminder", so sad that this guy gets his own Wikipedia entry...

But my real issue is with the "clients" who think they can claim to be ignorant victims of The Evil Satanic Video Game Mafia ::)

PS: Hey Mr. Thompson: HA, HA! ;D

To put this in context, Nintendo used to have Punch Out with the Power Glove, right?  I don't recall that making those of us who played it into little hellions, or even that anyone got sued over it.
