I think the launch is a little bigger than many expected.

There are LARGE lines at all the stores that still haven't opened, we struck out at the Wallmart that had 80 units!

Wow, hopefully Ratman fared a little better, I really want to give Wii Sports a try

So my early day plans got canceled so I had time to try some more stores. NO ONE HAS THEM. ALL SOLD OUT at store opening!

And yes Ustalk even the EB in SKYVIEW plasa was sold out.. they had 18 units.

They where even lined up at superstore this morning who had 18 units.

Future SHop had almost 200 people lined up by time they opened, they only had 50 units from what I here.

Not a single sales person I talked to on Friday figured they would sell out in the morning. Even went in to a Bay store to see if they had them, they said Zellers should have a bunch and the guy was surprised when I told him about the lines.

Anyway, the good news is that there should be weekly shipments of reasonable size right away, starting next week... Going to have to keep tabs on those.

While it does surprise me that they sold out considering the numbers that you speak of.  (1000+ in Edmonton?), you would think that the people who truly want a Wii (the hardcore gamers) would be the first ones to buy the console on day 1.  I think what Nintendo will do with such a large availability initially and into the near future is that they will hit their "early adopter" number very quickly much like Microsoft did.

*fingers crossed that Ratman got his*

Maybe VGCats will have a new comic this week re. the Sony supply-reducing and the Nintendo supply-out-running-of 8) ... ps: remember when the Wii was known as the "Revolution"? ;D

PS: Yay, now I have a built-in excuse why I shouldn't feel bad I have deprived my kids (for now, anyway) of the Wii -- cuz they be all gone, sorry! ;)

PPS: VGcats freakin' rox! ;D

I was asking around in the Park to see who sold out when (I slept in on sunday so it was far less likely I'd snag anything).

The "good" EB Games sold their 25 non-preordered units in 20 minutes after opening. I heard from a lady in the EB Games the Zellers units sold out within an hour or so. Costco which was going to be carrying Wii and PS3 bundles had neither. I asked at Customer Service if they had been carrying any of the units that day and the representative said no. I didn't even bother with Wal*Mart considering the throughput that store gets all hours of the day.

So unless there's been a delay in one of the stores unpacking/recieving their units there's no Wii to be had in the Park.

Ratman was SOL, he told me the story this morning. Basically the PS3 definatly over shadowed the release of the Wii, and no one expected this type of responce. The funnything is, the Wii has out sold the PS3 thuse far, if only due to a larger supply. But i bet one thing is for sure, a larger percentage of the Wii owners plan on holding onto the system, un like the PS3 were most early adopters plan on ditching the unit on ebay, some with no intentions of ever really owning the system.
