I was just wondering if anyone has played the new game put out by PS2 called Bully.  It takes place in a school calls Bullsworth Academy.  I hear it has violence towards teachers and would just like to confirm this.

Lazybones

Apparently it is actually a story about standing up to bully's. The anti video game guys like Jack Thompson have made it out to be something it isn't.

Here is one review of it http://ps2.ign.com/articles/739/739134p1.html I have seen others that say it is a rather good game.

I'll have to get ahold of a game station and the game and try it out for myself I htink before I am truely satisfied but I did take a look at that review and it seems to be of good standing!!

Heh, from the References To Popular Culture section:

Quote
Student Ray Hughes' catchphrase is "They say that kids imitate characters in video games, but I have yet to become a mustached plumber." This is a reference to the Nintendo character, Mario, a possible breaking of the fourth wall, and a satire on the criticisms leveled against critics such as Jack Thompson by video gamers.

That quote reminds me of one of my favorites...

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we?d all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."

Uhh...  Sorta sounds like a rave from the 90s.

Thats what makes it my favorite quote - it's one of the few examples of proof that computer games DO affect kids, because at many parties people do go running around darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.  But at the same time, it's obsure enough to make everyone believe that computer games don't affect kids.

Or maybe you just need to spend some time in a dark room, with some music and magic pills, to see the irony in it :)

Well, the way the post was written I didn't understand that you meant it ironically - I thought that "That quote reminds me" meant you were adding another quote with a similar, rather than ironically opposite, message.

I doubt that running around in darkened rooms, munching on magic pills, and listening to repetitive music has its roots in computer games - what about Native American sweat lodges and Roman orgies?  (yes, I dropped the word "electronic")

From the same guys that did Grand Theft Auto I understand, the reviews I saw were very good if that helps at all.

I bet they didn't eat keys, cherries and ghosts though (thank you, magic pills). ;)

1. Yes - sorry I didn't include WHY it reminded me of that quote, but it did :)

2. While I agree that "raves" (so much easier to say than "listening to repetitive electronic music in a dark room while high" - but here consider it to mean anything that falls under all that instead of the standard "rave" definition) developing had nothing to do with computer games - it's just another layer of irony in that we ARE emulating an old computer game, though the game has nothing to do with it.

Thanx for  all your feedback even though it did get off topic haha Although I must admit it was off topic in a very amusing way.  I can see how Raves can relate to pacman and if one gets high enough they may just eat keys, cherries and ghosts!!

Thorin

Yeah, threads'll do that here...  (go off-topic) :P
