Not enabled on all accounts yet (not mine yet), but this should solve some of those sync issues that people with mobile devices and multiple PCs have when using GMAIL with other email clients.

DUDE! Sweet.

edit: Darn, I don't have it either. Even tried logging in and out a couple times (even tried my google apps account).

Not for me either.  Though I don't use any of the download/forwarding features so its wasted on me.

You might want to now, as it doesn't really "download", IMAP is a stored mail service, any IMAP compatible client will have access to the same mail folders and mail content on any platform. If the std web interface is fine for you, ok, but I do like my current mail client :)

Hey, isn't this what you were asking for, Melbosa?  In a thread from about two weeks ago?

Thank Tom, but I was aware of what IMAP was, but as I said I don't use any of those features.  Dont have a mobile device, dont have a download client, etc.  I've grown rather fond of the gmail interface over the years.  i still wish i could have got shayne@gmail.com :(

so,
you get the regular "Gmail folders", i.e.- Starred, sent, allmail, drafts, spam, trash etc.

Tags are not synchronized to the mail client.
however, new folder from mail client do get synchronized into Gmail and appear as new tags.
if you tag a message with 2 "folder" tags, it will appear in both, however in Gmail you'll still have one copy.
all true to eudora (my favorite).

so you'll have a double management going on. still nice.

Mr. Analog

I'm sure at some point in the future there will be a way to sync up folders.

Like you say, still nice.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

Sorry,
guess I wasn't clear.

you are able to synchronize folders with Gmail.
it's basically both IMAP and Gmail.
the labels are unique to Gmail.
once you create a folder (client) it appears as a special label in the Gmail interface, and from here on it syncs.
Gmail web treats it like a label, so there's no change to it's interface
and the regular gmail labels are unique to the web interface alone.

hope it's clearer....

I doubt they'll change it, because once you label a message with more than one label you'll get many copies on your computer. it's your desicion to make and adding a label to all previously labeled otherwise is not that complicated.

Mr. Analog

Ah, ok makes more sense now, also I have coffee in me now...

We'll see, was thinking the same thing when I read the news on Google yesterday.

AFAIK you only get actual coppies if you turn on offline IMAP. IMAP stores all mail on the server, it grabs a folder list on fetch, and each message when you select (per session at least, it'll cache as long as its open).
