Wow, Norway manages their oil money *way* better than Alberta:

And a big article describing why they do so well for themselves:

I wonder if my family wants to move to Norway?

Sounds like Norway has something good going there. 78%? And the energy minister was worried about a 10-20% incease over the minuscule percentage we got last year? No one can now say that the oil companies will just give up if more proffits are taken by the governments. IF they do, they are plain daft and need a checkup down the road from my place. I said this before, with all the money they spent already, they aren't just going to give up unless they can't make ANY money at all, ever. Which isn't likely if they can still make enough money with 78% of their profits taken by the Norwegian Govt.

It's not so much that they take a lot of money from the oil companies for the right to drill there, it's that while there's a booming oil economy there's *also* booming other economies.  Other places, like Alberta, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, etc, have never been able to sustain a booming non-oil economy while there was an oil boom going on.  Prices of everything just balloon out of control because of all the money being made off oil.

Its both. They take most of the proffit AND don't spend most of it in the country itself, leaving the economy alone, for the most part.
