Does anyone make a printer that works anymore??? My latest HP just got to experience what hitting a hard surface at around 30g's feels like.
It did not survive. I've tried Hp's, Epsons, Lexmarks and they all are complete @%&# now adays. WTF are you suppose to do??

Erm, you're looking for a printer that can survive a 30g fall onto a hard surface? :P

Seriously, though, most printers are throwaways nowadays.  What was the problem with it?  We seem to get a new printer every three to four years, but we buy pretty low-quality, low-price stuff.
Prayin' for a 20!

gcc thorin.c -pedantic -o Thorin
compile successful

I would move to a small color laser/led printer if my old hp where to die. they are under $500 now.

My Canon IP3000 is still kicking but I think my next one will be Laser (sure the toner is expensive but still cheaper than ink in the long run I think).

Go with a Canon next time. I'm a huge fan of Canon midrange products. Reasonably durable, light, acceptably fast, and usually with good form factors. The only downside is it's still pretty much cheaper to buy a new printer than shell out for new cartridges.

About $120 (or less) w/GST will get you a Canon PIXMA iP4500 inkjet. Mr. A has a Pixma I got him for Christmas a couple years ago and it's held up really well.

I bought a personal-sized laser printer from Future Schlock about 3 years ago -- on my 3rd toner right now. As opposed to a new ink cartridge every 2-5 months. Simple math, great investment.

Yeah, I recall my Dad's inkjet using up a whole single black cartridge on a single ream of paper, that cartridge usually cost about $60. A single black toner cart for a laser usually costs about $80 (iirc) and last much much longer on average from what I recall (heck of a lot more than 300 pages).

So, spent the day at staples and walmart looking through the different printers. Was really really trying for a Canon to give them a shot. But there was one printer that kept popping out at me.

So that is the one I ended up getting. The price was just too good to pass up. A color laser printer that was cheaper then most black and whites (even samsungs own B&W). And with the toners being half the price as well (Samsung separates the image drum as a separate unit, so while that will have to be replaced as well, it should not need replacing nearly as often as the toners.)

So far it's not too bad:
- It's very quiet which is nice.
- Many review sites state how slow it is, but I was fairly impress how fast a full 8 1/2 X 11 photo printed, it seemed that most of the time was taken processing the image as apposed to the actual printing. And for my own personal use, speed has always been the very least important thing to me.
- Image quality is pretty impressive for a color laser. Will it compare to a similarly priced inkjet for photo quality, not at all. But, you wouldn't expect it to either. Text so far is extremely clear and sharp as you would expect with a laser printer.
- For the price, nothing was even close to comparable.
- Bonus feature: While it's the smallest color laser on the market, it's still big enough that I may think twice before hurtling it across the room this time. ;P

Really really tried to go Canon this time. But as I posted, the Samsung just seems such an outstanding bargain compared to the others. Plus, I have been pretty impressed with Samsung's over-all quality of their electronics lately so hoping that means the same for their printers (crosses fingers).

I like how the specs tell you the toner yields up front.

QuoteShips with Standard Yield Black toner cartridge (1500 pages) and Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow Colour toner cartridges (700 page yield each)
